members of both branches of the legal profession inviting

them to meet the Judges for the purpose of considering the

question. I append a copy of the notice.

4. The meeting which was attended by nearly all

the members of the profession in the Colony was accordingly

held, and I append a short memorandum of the proceedings which

took place at it.

5. It will be seen from the memorandum that the

members of the profession present were unanimous in thinking

that it is desirable that the system of civil procedure at

present obtaining in the Supreme Court should be revised, and

that the offer which I made to undertake the work of revision

while on leave of absence in England should be accepted.

6. I have therefore to ask that Your Excellency

will kindly approve of my carrying out this undertaking and

further that in that event you will give your sanction to my

arranging with the Crown Agents for printing in an inexpensive

manner a sufficient number of copies for consideration and

amendment by the members of the profession on my return to the

Colony. It would not be possible for me to make a satisfactory

draft unless it were put in type, and besides the printing of

the draft will greatly reduce the cost of printing the new

Code in the Colony when it is settled. But in any case the cost

will not be much.
